“I try to bring attractive products to the market in the shortest possible lead time.”

Her ambitions actually go beyond that. “My aim is to be ahead of time, launching a product that is the first of its kind with features that our competitors do not offer. And of course the price has to be highly competitive. So, to sum up my job, I try to bring attractive products to the market in the possible shortest lead time.” As Anu is responsible for a whole family of products, she sometimes has to juggle seven or eight projects at once. “You have to be good at multitasking and organizing yourself,” she says. “Otherwise this job wouldn’t be much fun.”

Working soccer mom

But as a working mom of two, Anu is well and truly organized anyway. She works flexible hours in order to be able to raise her young family. “If I had to be physically present in the office from nine to five, I would not be happy. But thankfully, at OSRAM all that matters is what you get done, not where or when you do it. I am grateful that I have so much flexibility with my working hours”. So if you are looking for Anu and you can’t find her in her office, try the soccer field. As her ten-year old son is an avid soccer player, most likely she’ll be there. It is easy to recognize her: she’s the only soccer mom with a laptop on her knees, not watching the match.

“I like the management culture here - they expect quite a bit from you, but they also offer you a lot in return. Whatever you ask for, they will try to make it work for you.”

From technical to managerial

Flexibility always played a large role in Anu’s life. Born in India and raised in Dubai, she came to the US to do a degree in electrical engineering. When she joined OSRAM back in 2006, she started out as an engineer. Over the years, she gradually moved to the marketing side of the business. “I didn’t mind moving away from a purely technical function, however,” she explains. “It’s great that my job covers both technical and managerial aspects. My background and expertise come in very handy when I speak to customers, distributors or production engineers. Having a common understanding makes everything so much easier.”

An awesome place to work

Looking back on the nine years that Anu has been with OSRAM, she feels that the company has treated her extremely well. “I think it’s an awesome place to work. Of course there are ups and downs, but that’s life. There is a great team spirit and a lot of dedication. People’s efforts are recognized and rewarded. I like the management culture here - they expect quite a bit from you, but they also offer you a lot in return. Whatever you ask for, they will try to make it work for you.”

"Light is my fascination.
This is where creativity meets strategy.
That’s how we develop markets."
